Our Kiss Tours guides were knowledgeable and friendly and took us to places of significance in Ho Chi Minh City. We felt safe on the back of the motorbikes and they taught us about cultural etiquette, political movements, the history of Vietnam and the impact of French colonisation. (Although we like the coffee and Bahn Mi 😂)We started at the Post Office where we were sent a postcard home, Book St which is lined with Tamarind trees and great for photos, Independence Palace that was bombed twice in 1962 and 1975, Thich Quang Duc where the Buddhist Monk performed self-immolation and my husband recognised the photo from the album cover for Rage Against the Machine! From here we went to Hoi Quan Tue Thanh which is a temple in Chinatown that is still actively used. For dinner, we had a quick cooking lesson at Hu Tieu Suon Sun Lien at the Flower market making Dry Mixed Noodles which was delicious! We also learned 1,2,3 cheers in Vietnamese which drinking our iced tea. Mot, Hai, Ba – Zo! (Excuse my spelling) Finally we were spoilt with traditional Vietnamese coffee at Ca Phe Do Phu and crawled through the hidden underfloor space which used to be a covert base for the People’s Army.I would thoroughly recommend our guides Helen and Kim. They are excellent ambassadors for their country and Kiss Tours. Ngā mihi nui ki a kōrua. Thank you from Aotearoa – New Zealand.
