Like any province with a history of foreign occupation tussling with the native common man, Saigon has led the way to many interesting institutions and awe-inspiring anecdotes. But the best part was zipping through the streets of Ho Chi Minh with a couple of locals from Kisstour who had so much knowledge and energy to share with us. The food and the condensed milk ca phe da (iced coffee) are to die for ❤️ We had an absolutely enlightening morning visiting the Saigon Central Post Office, Book Street, the new Independence Palace (site of the Fall of Saigon in 1975 that ended the Vietnam War), the Burning Monk Memorial, a local spy’s bunker in his house used to stock weapons (now made into a cafe cum exhibition), one of the oldest temples in China Town. We also had an amazing lunch at a very busy Kieu Baa 🫶Sending ourselves a couple of postcards turned out to be more fun than expected. Thank you so much to our guides for the day, Helen⁩ & Windy, for sharing their knowledge with us and taking us through such an interesting history of Saigon ❤️ we loved hanging out with them. And this was indeed the best way to utilise our time between a midnight arrival and an afternoon check in at the hotel. I strongly recommend visitors looking to get a quick course in Ho Chi Minh’s history to go on one of these guided tours!
