Ninh Binh in a Full Day from Hanoi
This full-day car tour runs from Hanoi to Ninh Binh and back, with an English-speaking guide and a small group of 9. It pairs history, a rewarding climb and a classic sampan ride through Tam Coc.
Itinerary
- 07:00–07:15: pick-up from your Old Quarter hotel;
- 08:45: a short break halfway;
- 09:15: Hoa Lu Ancient Capital — Dinh King Temple and a scenic viewpoint;
- 10:30: Mua Cave — climb 500 steps to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain for panoramic views over the river and rice fields;
- 12:00: a traditional Vietnamese set-menu lunch at a local homestay by the Ngo Dong River;
- 13:15: a sampan boat trip through Tam Coc and its three caves — Hang Ca, Hang Hai and Hang Ba;
- 15:00: cycle through the rice fields to Bich Dong Pagoda (dating to 1428);
- 16:00: depart for Hanoi, arriving around 18:30–19:00.
When to Go
Tam Coc’s rice fields are at their best around late May into June. From roughly June to October the fields are past the harvest and less green — if you’re travelling then, our Trang An version gives you a longer boat ride that doesn’t depend on the rice season.
