Vietnam E-Visa for Children 2026: Easy Rules by Age and Passport

Does your child need their own Vietnam e-visa? The 2026 rules by age and passport,…

The Vietnam e-visa for children follows one simple rule: any child traveling on their own passport needs their own e-visa, at any age — even infants. Children under 14 who are listed inside a parent’s passport are the exception: they are added to the parent’s e-visa application instead of filing their own. The fee is the same as for adults, $25 USD single-entry or $50 USD multiple-entry, and the only official portal is evisa.gov.vn.

Vietnam e-visa for children — key rules (July 2026):

  • Own passport = own e-visa, regardless of age. No family or group visa exists.
  • Under 14 and listed in a parent’s passport = included in the parent’s application.
  • Fee per applicant: $25 USD single-entry / $50 USD multiple-entry, up to 90 days.
  • Official processing: 3–5 working days, longer around Tet and holidays.
  • Visa-exempt nationalities (e.g. UK, 45 days): children are exempt too.

Does My Child Need a Separate E-Visa for Vietnam?

Your child needs a separate e-visa if they hold their own passport — which today means almost every child, since most countries no longer add children to parents’ passports.

Situation What your child needs
Child has own passport (any age) Own e-visa application, own $25 USD fee
Child under 14, listed in parent’s passport Declared inside the parent’s application (name + date of birth in the children’s section)
Family from a visa-exempt country Nothing — the exemption covers children. See who needs a visa for Vietnam

How Do You Apply for a Vietnam E-Visa for Children?

You apply for a Vietnam e-visa for children the same way as for an adult, on evisa.gov.vn — a parent simply fills the form on the child’s behalf. Each application needs:

  • The child’s passport, valid at least 6 months beyond the arrival date.
  • A photo of the passport information page.
  • A recent portrait photo (4×6, plain white background, no glasses, taken within 6 months). Yes, immigration accepts that your toddler will not look at the camera — a clear face is enough.
  • The $25 USD or $50 USD fee, paid per applicant — there is no child discount on government fees.

Enter the child’s details exactly as printed in the passport. Ngân, who runs our visa desk, sees the same error weekly: “Parents type the family’s details from memory late at night. One transposed digit in a child’s passport number and the whole family is standing at the counter while one e-visa gets rejected.” If that happens to you, here is how to fix a rejected Vietnam e-visa fast.

What Documents Should Families Carry Beyond the E-Visa?

The Vietnam e-visa for children covers entry permission only — airlines and border officers sometimes want proof of the family relationship as well. Immigration officers rarely ask, but airlines often do. When a child travels with one parent, a guardian or a school group, carry a birth certificate copy plus a signed consent letter from the absent parent (with passport copy). Blended families whose surnames differ from the child’s should carry the birth certificate for the same reason.

Do Kids Need the 2026 Health Declaration Too?

Yes. Since July 1, 2026 every traveler entering Vietnam — including children and infants — needs the pre-arrival health declaration. A parent can complete it for the whole family in one sitting; details in our Vietnam entry requirements guide.

Flying Soon and the Kids Have No Visa Yet?

Official processing is 3–5 working days, and there is no same-day option on the government portal. If your family flies sooner than that, expedited processing works for a Vietnam e-visa for children exactly as it does for adults — through an agency, at agency prices — real costs run $80–$200 USD all-in per person depending on urgency. Start with our honest guides to the Vietnam emergency visa and the last-minute visa checklist, or message us and we will tell you plainly whether your timeline is realistic.

One more timing tip from our desk: apply for the whole family at least two weeks before flying. Approvals arrive individually by email, so print or save each PDF separately — the airline check-in agent will want to see every one, including the children\u2019s.

Vietnam E-Visa for Children — FAQ

Does a baby need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes — the Vietnam e-visa for children applies at any age: if the baby has their own passport, they need their own e-visa at the full $25 USD fee. Age does not matter; passports do.

Is there a family or group e-visa for Vietnam?

No. Vietnam has no family visa — each passport holder applies separately. The only grouping allowed is a child under 14 listed inside a parent’s passport.

Can children get a visa on arrival instead?

Yes, children can use the visa-on-arrival route with a pre-approval letter, same as adults — but for most families the e-visa is simpler. Compare both in our Vietnam visa guide.

How long does a child’s e-visa take?

The same 3–5 working days as adult applications. Family applications are not processed together — one member’s e-visa can arrive a day before another’s.

What is the most common mistake in children’s applications?

Typos in the passport number or name spelling, and uploading a cropped holiday photo instead of a plain-background portrait. Triple-check every detail of the Vietnam e-visa for children against the passport page itself before paying — the fee is not refunded for errors.
