We spent over three and a half hours on a scooter tour around Saigon with Kim and Kio and it turned out to be one of the best ways to really understand the city. The route was very well thought out. We visited, among others, the Central Post Office, the Reunification (Presidential) Palace, a Chinese-Vietnamese temple in Cholon (District 10 / Chinatown), and the site commemorating the self-immolation of the Buddhist monk in 1963. We also stopped at several places connected with the modern history of South Vietnam and the underground resistance movement in Saigon. The historical context was explained clearly and without simplifications. On top of that, we had an excellent tasting of southern Vietnamese cuisine — not a tourist gimmick, but genuinely good local food.Kim and Kio were outstanding: very competent, well-informed, calm and extremely skilled riders. Riding on the back seat through Saigon traffic felt surprisingly safe and relaxed. They know the city and how to move in it.The tour combines history, urban exploration, everyday life and food in exactly the right proportions. Add perfect weather in the dry season (late January), and the result is an easy 10/10.Highly recommended if you want more than just “photo stops” and actually want to understand how Saigon works.
