What Is a Female Motorbike Tour in Saigon?
A female motorbike tour is a guided city tour where a local woman drives the scooter and you ride behind her, stopping to eat, look and talk along the way. There is no van, no group of forty, no microphone — the format is one guest, one rider, for the whole tour.
That one-to-one structure is the whole point. You are not following a flag through a crowd. You are on the back of a bike with someone who can answer a question at a red light, reroute because a market is busy today, or pull over because the bánh mì cart she likes just opened. Why Do the Riders Wear Áo Dài?
The áo dài is Vietnam’s national dress: a long, split tunic worn over trousers, and our riders wear it on tour because it is the clearest way to say this is a Vietnamese woman showing you her own city.
The garment is older than most visitors expect. In 1744, Lord Nguyễn Phúc Khoát decreed that people in the south wear a long buttoned tunic over trousers, partly to mark a southern identity distinct from northern dress. The version you see today came much later. In the 1930s the artist Nguyễn Cát Tường, known as Le Mur, cut it into two pieces, lengthened the front panel to the ankle and gave it its fitted silhouette. Riding a scooter in one is not a costume decision, it is a practical one. The split panels fall either side of the seat, which is exactly how women here have ridden bikes for generations.
Who Are the Women on a Female Motorbike Tour?
Our riders are Vietnamese women — students, mothers, career-changers — who work as drivers and guides at the same time. More than 500 women have earned an income with KissTour across Saigon and Da Nang since the company was founded in 2017 by one local woman with one scooter.
This is less unusual in Vietnam than it sounds abroad. Vietnam’s female labour-force participation rate was 69.1% in 2024 (World Bank/ILO modelled estimate), against a global figure the ILO puts at around 50%. Women here work, and they ride. What is unusual is a tour company where every guide on the road is one.
What Does a Female Motorbike Tour Actually Feel Like?
You sit behind your rider, hold the grab bar or her shoulder, and cover ground you would never walk to — usually four to seven stops in three and a half hours. Helmets are provided. So are ponchos, because we ride rain or shine.

Is a Female Motorbike Tour Right for You — or Not?
A female motorbike tour suits you if you are comfortable sitting on the back of a scooter for a few hours and you want to cover a lot of city with one person’s attention. It does not suit everyone, and we would rather say so before you pay.
Skip it, or ask us for a car instead, if any of these apply:
- You cannot swing a leg over a scooter seat or sit upright unsupported for 30–40 minutes at a stretch.
- You are pregnant, or recovering from back, hip or knee surgery.
- Heavy traffic makes you genuinely anxious rather than just nervous — anxiety on the back of a bike is not fun for three hours.
- You are travelling with an infant. We do not recommend it.
- You want to stop and photograph for twenty minutes at each site. A walking tour will serve you better.
