Arriving at Tan Son Nhat works like this: every international flight lands at Terminal 2, you clear immigration (25–45 minutes at peak), collect your bags, walk out past customs, and ride about 7 km to District 1. A KissTour host can meet you in the arrival hall, wheel your luggage and — because we register your flight and details with the airport in advance — take you through the airport’s fast-track line instead of the general queue, from $30 USD per person.

Last updated: July 14, 2026 · Written with our SGN arrivals team, who meet guests at this airport every single day.

Which Terminal Will You Arrive At?

All international flights arrive at Terminal 2 — if you are flying in from another country, T2 is you. Tan Son Nhat (SGN) now runs three terminals, and the new T3 confuses a lot of first-timers:

Terminal Who Uses It Notes
Terminal 1 Vietjet domestic flights All Vietjet domestic check-in moved to Hall A, T1 from January 13, 2026
Terminal 2 All international flights Your arrival point from abroad
Terminal 3 Vietnam Airlines group, Bamboo, Vietravel domestic Opened April 2025; free shuttle links all terminals

So: land at T2, and only think about T1 or T3 if you have a domestic connection (more on that below).

What Do You Need Ready Before Landing?

Flight information board and check-in zone signage inside the terminal at Tan Son Nhat

Before arriving at Tan Son Nhat, have four things ready: a passport valid for 6+ months, your visa or e-visa printout (if your nationality needs one), your completed health declaration, and your hotel address for the landing card questions officers sometimes ask. Vietnam made the health declaration mandatory for all arrivals from July 1, 2026 — do it online before you board, not in the immigration queue. Full document rules are in our Vietnam entry requirements guide.

How Long Does Immigration Take When Arriving at Tan Son Nhat?

Immigration at Tan Son Nhat takes about 25–45 minutes at peak hours, and the worst window is 11pm–1am when long-haul flights land in a bank — we track this in our Vietnam airport wait times guide. Fast track is a paid hospitality service: we register your flight and passenger details with the airport before you fly, so on the day a host meets you in the arrival hall and takes you into the airport’s fast-track line rather than the general queue. It does not change the officer’s own checks — you present your own passport, and how long that takes belongs to the authorities. At SGN it starts at $30 USD per person (Standard arrival). “Look for the KissTour sign in the arrival hall, before the immigration counters — not after baggage claim. We send you a photo of it the day before. That is where people miss us,” says Ngân, who coordinates our SGN arrivals. Details and honest advice on when you do NOT need it: Tan Son Nhat fast track guide.

Where Do You Get Bags, SIM Cards and Cash?

Baggage belts sit directly after immigration — screens show your flight number, and bags for delayed queues are often already circling. After customs (green lane if nothing to declare), the arrivals hall has SIM counters (Viettel, Vinaphone, Mobifone — tourist SIMs around 150,000–250,000 VND (~$6–10 USD)) and ATMs. Withdraw 2,000,000–3,000,000 VND (~$77–115 USD) to start; card acceptance in the city is good but street food is cash.

How Do You Get From the Airport to District 1?

The ride to District 1 is about 7 km and takes 25–45 minutes depending on traffic. Your three real options:

Option Cost How
Grab (app) 110,000–250,000 VND (~$4–10 USD) + 10,000–15,000 VND gate fee Cross to the parking lot pickup point past the café — follow the green Grab signs
Metered taxi ~150,000–200,000 VND (~$6–8 USD) Use Vinasun or Mai Linh from the official rank only
Bus 109 ~15,000 VND (~$0.60 USD) Lowest cost; slow with luggage, runs to Ben Thanh

One USD is roughly 26,000 VND; prices above are July 2026 snapshots and shift with demand.

What If You Have a Domestic Connection?

If you connect to a domestic flight after arriving at Tan Son Nhat, you must exit T2, then transfer: Vietnam Airlines group, Bamboo and Vietravel fly domestic from Terminal 3, while Vietjet domestic uses Terminal 1. A free shuttle links the terminals about every 20 minutes; allow 20–40 minutes door to door plus check-in time. Tight connection? Our arrival + connecting assistance ($49 USD Standard at SGN) walks you from the arrival hall through the terminal transfer to your domestic check-in desk — book airport assistance online here or read the full Vietnam airport assistance guide.

FAQ: Arriving at Tan Son Nhat

Do I need a visa before arriving at Tan Son Nhat?

Many nationalities do — most travelers use the $25 USD e-visa (90 days, single entry). Some passports, including the UK, enter visa-free for up to 45 days. Check before flying; there is no visa counter shortcut without pre-approval.

Is the health declaration really required?

Yes. Since July 1, 2026 every arrival must submit an online health declaration. Do it before boarding — officers can send you back to fill it in, which costs you your place in the queue.

How early do things get busy?

The roughest immigration window is 11pm–1am, when several long-haul flights land together. Midday arrivals often walk through in under 20 minutes.

Can I pay for fast track when I land?

Book ahead — our greeter needs your flight details to meet you in the arrival hall. You can pay cash at the airport, and if plans change and you tell us in advance, cancellation is free.

Is Grab safe from the airport?

Yes — it is what locals use. Match the plate number in the app and expect a small airport gate fee of 10,000–15,000 VND on top of the fare.
