Short version: rooftop bars in Saigon charge 160,000–350,000 VND (~$6–13) for a cocktail, most run a happy hour between 5 and 8 PM, and the sun sets between 5:35 and 6:20 PM year-round. Book a table for 5 PM, keep the seat for about 90 minutes, and you get the sunset and the lit-up skyline for one drink. Below: nine rooftops with real 2026 prices, floors and dress codes — picked by riders who cross this skyline every night.
How Much Do Rooftop Bars in Saigon Cost?
A cocktail at rooftop bars in Saigon costs 160,000–350,000 VND (~$6–13), and a local beer costs 75,000–230,000 VND (~$3–8.8). There is no entry fee at any of the venues below — you pay for what you drink, and most places have no minimum spend.
Happy hour is where the maths changes. Several rooftops cut selected drinks by up to half between 5 and 8 PM, which is exactly the window you want anyway.

What Time Should You Arrive for Sunset?
Arrive 45 minutes before sunset. In Ho Chi Minh City the sun sets between about 5:35 PM in November and 6:20 PM in early July — a swing of under an hour all year, because the city sits close to the equator. Civil twilight then holds the sky for roughly another 30 minutes.
That gives you a practical rule: sit down at 5 PM. You catch the last daylight over the river, the colour change, and the moment the skyline switches on — and you are still inside most happy hours. Turn up at 7 PM and you have paid full price for a view you can only half see.
One thing our riders notice that guidebooks skip: the good tables face west or toward the river, and they go first. Walk-ins at 6:30 PM on a Friday get the inside seat by the service station.

Which Rooftop Bars in Saigon Are Worth the Ride?
The right rooftop depends on what you want to look at — height, history, or the river. These are the four we point guests toward most often.
Blank Lounge — the highest view in Vietnam
Blank Lounge sits on floors 75 and 76 of Landmark 81, which at 461 metres is the tallest building in Vietnam. Cocktails run about 295,000 VND (~$11), the dress code is casual, and reservations are strongly recommended at weekends. It is in Bình Thạnh, not District 1, so factor in a 15–20 minute ride from the centre.
Saigon Saigon Bar at the Caravelle — the one with the history
On the 10th floor of the Caravelle opposite the Opera House, this is where foreign correspondents filed copy during the war. Cocktails around 320,000 VND (~$12), happy hour 5–7 PM, live band or DJ nightly, smart casual. The view takes in the Opera House and Notre Dame — the most “Saigon” skyline on this list.
M Bar at the Majestic — river views, colonial building
The Majestic opened in 1925 and its 8th-floor M Bar looks straight down the Saigon River. Cocktails about 280,000 VND (~$10.5), live bands most evenings. If it is full, the hotel’s 5th-floor Breeze Sky Bar is open around the clock. Pair it with a sunset on the river itself if you have two evenings.
Rex Hotel Rooftop Garden — casual, central, live music
Only five floors up, at the top of Nguyễn Huệ walking street, the Rex garden terrace is the easiest of the group: casual dress, live music nightly, cocktails around 300,000 VND (~$11.5). Low altitude, but you are level with the trees and the street noise instead of above it, which some people prefer.
What Should You Wear to a Rooftop Bar in Saigon?
Most rooftop bars in Saigon ask for smart casual — closed shoes and a collared shirt or a dress will clear any door on this list. Chill Skybar, Social Club, Saigon Saigon and M Bar all state smart casual; Zion asks for smart elegant; Blank Lounge, SolLuna and the Rex are casual.
Practical version for a hot city: no beach sandals, no vests, no gym shorts. Riders who drop guests at these doors see the same refusal every week, and it is almost always flip-flops.
When Is a Rooftop Not Worth It?
Skip the rooftop if it is raining, if you are in Saigon for three nights, or if what you actually came for is the city rather than the picture of it. Between May and October a storm can close an outdoor terrace with 20 minutes’ notice, and few venues warn you before you have ordered.
There is also an honest limit to what altitude gives you. From 26 floors up, Saigon is silent. You cannot smell the charcoal, you cannot hear the horns, and the flower market at 9 PM does not exist. That is the trade — a beautiful, sealed version of the city.
“Guests book a rooftop for six o’clock and then message us to move the pickup, because the sunset ran long. We tell them to go at five. One hour up there, then come down and ride — that is the night that works.” — Vy, one of our áo dài riders
Our Kiss Saigon By Night tour picks up from your hotel at 6:00 PM and runs about 3.5 hours for $39 USD, with 100% female riders. The route covers Hồ Thị Kỳ flower market, old apartment blocks and the alleys you only reach on two wheels. A 5 PM rooftop and a 6 PM pickup fit together neatly. A 6:30 PM rooftop does not.
How Do You Get to a Rooftop Bar and Back?
Use Grab. Most of these rooftops are inside a 3 km circle in District 1, so a car ride between any two of them is usually 40,000–90,000 VND (~$1.5–3.5), and a Grab bike is roughly half that. Hotel-tower rooftops have proper lifts from the lobby; the smaller Bùi Viện and Phạm Ngũ Lão ones are up a narrow building lift, so allow a few extra minutes at peak hours.
Coming down after 10 PM is straightforward — District 1 is busy and well lit, and the walking street stays lively. If it is your first trip, our first-time guide to Saigon covers Grab, cash and QR payments in more detail, and our nightlife guide covers what else is open late.
Rooftop Bars in Saigon: FAQ
Do rooftop bars in Saigon charge an entry fee?
No. None of the nine venues above charges admission or a cover, and most have no minimum spend. You pay per drink, from 99,000 VND (~$3.8) at a Zion happy hour to 350,000 VND (~$13) for a cocktail at Chill Skybar.
Which rooftop bar in Saigon has the best view?
Blank Lounge on floors 75–76 of Landmark 81 has the highest view in Vietnam. For a view you recognise as Saigon — Opera House, Notre Dame, colonial rooftops — the Caravelle’s 10th floor is better. Height and character are not the same thing.
Do I need to book a table?
For Blank Lounge and Social Club at weekends, yes. Elsewhere walk-ins are normal on weeknights, but a reservation is what gets you a rail seat facing the sunset rather than a table inside.
Are rooftop bars in Saigon safe for solo travellers?
Yes. They are hotel and tower venues with lifts, staff and lighting, and solo diners are common. Standard city sense applies on the street afterwards — watch your phone when you are looking at it near traffic.
What happens if it rains?
Outdoor-only rooftops close or move guests indoors during a storm, usually with little warning during the May–October wet season. Venues marked indoor/outdoor — Chill Skybar, Saigon Saigon, M Bar, the Rex — are safer bets in the rainy months.
Can I do a rooftop and a night tour the same evening?
Yes, if the rooftop comes first. Sit down at 5 PM, leave by 5:45 PM, and be at your hotel for a 6:00 PM pickup.
