Short answer: the Da Nang rainy season runs from September to December, and October is the wettest month with about 650 mm of rain over 20 days. Storms come in bursts, not all day. Museums, Marble Mountains and food are all still open, and most tours still run.
When Is the Da Nang rainy season?
The Da Nang rainy season runs from September to December, driven by the northeast monsoon that hits the whole central coast. Da Nang collects about 2,155 mm of rain a year, and roughly three quarters of it falls in those four months. February to April is the dry opposite: March averages 20 mm across four rainy days.
Here is what each month actually looks like, using the 1991–2020 averages.
| Month | Rain | Rainy days | Average temp | Sunshine/day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| September | 310 mm | 14 | 28.3 °C | 6 hours |
| October | 650 mm | 20 | 26.4 °C | 4.5 hours |
| November | 430 mm | 20 | 24.8 °C | 4 hours |
| December | 215 mm | 18 | 22.6 °C | 3.5 hours |
September is the friendliest of the four. It is still hot, the sea is still 29 °C, and the rain usually arrives as an afternoon event rather than a whole-day sulk. December is the coolest and greyest — three and a half hours of sun a day is the lowest reading of the year. Our month-by-month Da Nang weather guide covers the dry half of the calendar.

How Bad Does the Da Nang Rainy Season Actually Get?
Rain in the Da Nang rainy season arrives in concentrated bursts, and the worst of it comes with tropical storms that can sit over the coast for three to five days. After an extreme downpour, some low-lying streets in the centre flood for two to four hours, then drain. That is the normal pattern, and it is very different from what most visitors picture.
Typhoon season on this stretch of coast runs from early September to around 10 December. A typhoon making direct landfall on Da Nang is rare — most years bring heavy rain and rough seas rather than a direct hit. When a serious storm is forecast, though, the disruption is real: flights get cancelled, the beach closes, and you may lose two or three days.
Two practical consequences. Buy travel insurance that covers weather disruption if you are travelling in October or November. And do not book those months as a beach holiday — the water is still 26–28 °C, but red flags and swell keep you out of it. Build the trip around the city instead — our full list of things to do in Da Nang has the indoor options.

What Can You Do in Da Nang When It Rains?
Quite a lot, and most of it costs under 60,000 VND. The Da Nang rainy season is museum season: the city has three of them, plus a cave complex you can walk through in the wet and one of the best indoor food scenes in Vietnam. These are the 2026 prices published by the city’s own tourism department.
| Place | 2026 ticket | Hours | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Museum of Cham Sculpture | 60,000 VND (~$2.30 USD) | 07:30–17:00 | The city’s one unmissable museum |
| Da Nang Museum (Bach Dang) | 50,000 VND (~$1.90 USD) | 08:00–17:00 | City history, opened April 2025 |
| Da Nang Fine Arts Museum | 20,000 VND (~$0.80 USD) | 08:00–17:00 | A quiet hour, rarely busy |
| Marble Mountains (Thuy Son) | 40,000 VND (~$1.50 USD) | 07:00–17:00 | Caves stay dry, steps get slick |
| Am Phu Cave | 20,000 VND (~$0.80 USD) | 07:00–17:00 | Entirely underground |
| Mikazuki 365 water park | 350,000–400,000 VND (~$13–15 USD) | 09:00–19:00 | Indoor pools, families |
Prices come from the official Da Nang tourism department’s 2026 admission list, converted at roughly 26,000 VND to $1 USD. Children under 16 get into the city museums free.
The Cham Museum is the one to prioritise. It holds the largest collection of Cham sculpture anywhere, it sits right across from the Dragon Bridge, and you can lose two hours in it without noticing the weather. Marble Mountains works in light rain too — the caves are sheltered, though the stone steps turn greasy, so wear something with grip.
And then there is eating, which is what most locals do with a wet afternoon. Mi Quang, bun cha ca and banh xeo are all hot-bowl food designed for exactly this weather. Our Da Nang food guide has the dishes and prices, and the night market guide covers where to go after dark.
Do Tours Still Run During the Da Nang Rainy Season?
Yes. Our Da Nang tours run rain or shine, and every rider carries ponchos for guests. A grey sky is not a cancellation — a wet motorbike ride through the city with a poncho on is a perfectly good afternoon, and the streets are emptier. The exception is a genuine storm: if a typhoon is called, we cancel and refund in full.
You can also book now and pay cash after the tour, which matters more in the Da Nang rainy season than at any other time of year. It means you are never locked into a day that turns out to be unrideable.
| Tour | Length | Price | Rainy-season note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Da Nang City Tour | 3.5 hours | $40 USD | Ponchos provided, stops mostly sheltered |
| Da Nang Food Tour | 4 hours | $49 USD | The best wet-weather choice — you eat indoors |
| Da Nang By Night | 3.5 hours | $35 USD | Evening rain usually eases by 7 PM |
| Ba Na Hills by car | 8 hours | $105 USD (2–4 pax) | Check the forecast first, see below |

Should You Book Ba Na Hills in the Da Nang rainy season?
Ba Na Hills is the one attraction the Da Nang rainy season can genuinely ruin. The resort sits at 1,479 metres, and in the wet months the cloud often sits below the summit. You pay 1,000,000 VND (~$38 USD) for the non-resident adult ticket and ride the cable car into white fog. The Golden Bridge photograph you came for simply is not there.
If the forecast is clear, go early and go on a weekday. If it is not, swap it for a museum day or Marble Mountains and save the money. Our honest verdict on Ba Na Hills goes through the trade-offs in full.
When Is the Da Nang Rainy Season Not Worth It?
Skip these months if your trip depends on swimming, on a specific Ba Na Hills photo, or on a fixed one-day window with no flexibility. October and November in particular are a gamble, and a 20-rainy-day month is not a background risk — it is the likely outcome.
Come anyway if you want low-season hotel rates, empty beaches for walking, and a city that feels like itself rather than a holiday set. Da Nang in the wet is green, cool and quiet, and the Da Nang rainy season is the only time you will have Marble Mountains almost to yourself. Travellers weighing a bigger reroute should read our Saigon versus Da Nang comparison — the south stays warm while the central coast is soaked, and Saigon’s rain behaves completely differently.
What Should You Pack for the Da Nang Rainy Season?
Pack for warm rain, not cold rain. That is the one thing the Da Nang rainy season catches people out on. Temperatures stay between 22 °C and 28 °C through the whole wet season, so a heavy waterproof jacket is dead weight. What you want is sandals or shoes that dry fast, a dry bag for your phone and passport, and a local poncho — they sell for 20,000–40,000 VND (~$0.80–1.50 USD) on any street corner.
Two more things travellers forget. Bring a light long-sleeve layer for December evenings, when it drops to 20 °C and feels colder in the damp. And keep some cash on you, because a flooded street means cards and card machines are the least of the neighbourhood’s concerns. Our full Vietnam packing list has the rest.
FAQ: Da Nang in the Da Nang rainy season
Which month has the most rain in Da Nang?
October, by a wide margin. It averages 650 mm of rain across about 20 rainy days, roughly 30% of the city’s annual total in a single month.
Does it rain all day during the Da Nang rainy season?
Usually not. Most wet days bring heavy bursts with dry gaps between them. Multi-day continuous rain happens when a tropical storm parks offshore, typically three to five days at a time.
Can you swim in Da Nang in October and November?
The water stays warm — 28 °C in October and 26.5 °C in November — but swell and red flags close the swimming zones for days at a stretch. Plan those months around food and culture instead of the beach.
Is Da Nang less expensive in the Da Nang rainy season?
Yes. Hotel rates drop sharply from October to early December outside the Christmas and New Year window, and attractions are far less crowded during the Da Nang rainy season. Tour and ticket prices stay the same.
Do motorbike tours run when it rains in Da Nang?
They do. Our Da Nang tours run rain or shine with ponchos provided, and you pay cash after the tour. If a typhoon is forecast, we cancel and refund in full rather than ride.
